About Dr. Adams

Psychologist in Raleigh NC

Lauren Adams, PhD (she/her/hers) is a counseling psychologist who offers individual therapy to adolescents and adults. She has extensive experience in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, relational/interpersonal conflict, substance use concerns, sleep disorders, and stress management. Dr. Adams has particular expertise in working with emerging adults and students navigating the pressures of undergraduate and graduate schooling.

“Therapy offers a powerful and unique opportunity to be curious about ourselves, process our complex lived experiences, and seek relief from suffering. In my experience as a psychologist, I have learned that the symptoms and suffering people are experiencing in their lives are often linked to their relational styles, history or patterns. In our work, we will attend not only to the symptoms and challenges you are experiencing, but also the ways in which your relationships interact with the kinds of difficulties you are seeking help with. By approaching that work together in the context of a non-judgmental space, we have the chance to enact long lasting, meaningful change.”

Dr. Adams specializes in Interpersonal Process Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Grounded in her commitment to provide multiculturally informed care, Dr. Adams integrates Interpersonal Process and Psychodynamic principles into her therapeutic approach, facilitating an in-depth exploration of long standing patterns that may underpin ongoing distress in clients’ lives. Dr. Adams also incorporates techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to empower her clients with practical coping skills for their daily lives. Furthermore, she is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), enabling her to address a wide spectrum of sleep difficulties. She has specialized training and experience in substance use specific concerns, including interests in addressing problematic risk and examining our overall relationship to substances. Dr. Adams completed her doctoral degree at Indiana University- Bloomington. She will be completing the clinical portion of her postdoctoral fellowship and establishing her professional roots with CPW.
