How Can Behavioral Sleep Medicine Address Sleep Problems?

Behavioral Sleep Medicine is a rapidly growing area of sleep psychology. Behavioral sleep specialists address the behavioral, psychological, and physiological factors that interfere with sleep and introduce systematic changes that improve quality of sleep. Most approaches in Behavioral Sleep Medicine do not involve medications, but some interventions may be used in conjunction with medications (behavioralsleep.org). Behavioral sleep medicine treatments are scientifically tested and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia is now the recommended first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. Behavioral sleep therapies address the behaviors and cognitions that maintain sleep disorders, and change the relationship you have with sleep.
